LAASA members visited Estia Neas Smyrnis

  • 5 Οκτωβρίου 2016

Today LAASA members visited Estia Neas Smyrnis, a historical-cultural centre which aims to keep alive rich knowledge and tradition of Greek culture in Asia Minor. The centre was established by Greek refugees who migrated from the present day Izmir during the war in 1920’s. It also houses a museum exhibiting a large number of old photographs, clothes, icons, paintings, and other art objects donated by Greeks from Asia Minor.

We were warmly welcomed by Mr Ioannis Papadatos the President, wonderfully guided by Mrs Papadopoulou a member of the Board, shown exquisite paintings of iconic persons from many countries by Ms Maria Sideri, treated to delicious homemade sweets including Smyrni cake, and looked after very well by staff members and volunteers.

We wish to thank you all and look forward to our next visits soon.

Participating members from – Australia, Belgium, Georgia, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and our friend from WIC.
